A one day symposium further exploring the themes of the exhibition. A chance to hear artists and academics discuss the woman’s role in graphic novels, both from the past and in the modern day.
The autobiographical comics of these fearless artists confront issues both personal and global. Many of the works address extremely personal topics and also reveal the artists’ feelings about Israel, being Jewish and/or a woman in today’s world, struggles with children, family, intermarriages and other collective experiences.
Speakers
include Prof. David Brauner (University of Reading) and Dr Ariela
Freedman (Concordia University), Dr Ariel Kahn (University of
Roehampton) and Dr Pnina Rosenberg (Israel). Alongside five of the
exhibiting artists; Miriam Katin, Diane Noomin, Corinne Pearlman,
Ariel Schrag and Ilana Zeffren. The day will be chaired by Sarah
Lightman (University of Glasgow) and Dr Heike Bauer (Birkbeck, University of London).
